Is First Class Meeting Attendance Mandatory?

Students are required to attend the first class meeting of courses for which they are registered prior to the first day of the semester. This policy is effective so that USF classroom space and USF student opportunities are maximized where demand exceeds availability of seats. Initial professor class rolls list students registered prior to the first day of the semester for the purpose of dropping students not in attendance first class meeting. Professors notified timely of extenuating circumstances may waive the first class meeting requirement. For structured 6000 level courses and above, first class meeting attendance requirement is set by the College/Campus Dean. Courses without regularly scheduled meeing times, e.g. directed readings, thesis, dissertation, etc, are exempt from this policy. All students are required to drop undesired courses by the 5th day of the semester to avoid fee liabilty and academic penalty.
