When faculty and some or all students are separated by space or time, the course is considered distance learning. Search the Distance Learning Catalog for course descriptions and delivery icons. For example, icons representing a computer denote USF's online web courses. Icons representing a television denote courses broadcast on WUSF-TV or another outlet. Some distance learning courses use a combination of these options for "anytime, anyplace" learning while videoconferencing courses provide "same time, same place" instruction connecting students on all four USF campuses, Pasco-Hernando Community College, the USF Downtown Center and St. Petersburg College.

All students are required to create a NetID to use the USF Web portal and obtain a distance learning student USFCard to participate in distance learning. Follow the new user instructions at the portal, and allow adequate time to process your USFCard application by mail before your first course meeting, otherwise you may not be able to log into the instructor/student interface known as Blackboard timely.

Many textbooks for distance learning courses are available online through the University Bookstore. Regional campus textbooks may be available at those campus bookstores.
