  Residency for Tuition Purposes for U.S. Citizen Students of Non-Immigrant Parents

Eligibility Criteria:

U.S. Citizen
Dependent on Non-Immigrant Parents
Under the age of 24
Enrolled in the Fall 2012 semester
Classified as an Undergraduate Student seeking a bachelor’s degree
Residency classification is non-Florida (you have been charged out-of-state tuition/fees
Deadline to Request Reclassification
The application for residency reclassification must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar not later than January 7, 2013 (the first day of classes for the Spring 2013 term.
Any requests for reconsideration not received by January 7, 2013 will be reviewed to determine whether a change in tuition classification is warranted for a subsequent term. No retroactive reclassifications for the purpose of paying in-state tuition will be made.
Special Notes:
You must provide documentation of your parent/guardian’s actual residency in Florida.
The immigration status of parents of U.S. citizen students cannot be used when making residency determinations under Board of Governors’ residency rule, Section 72-1.001(5)(a)3, Florida Administrative Code. Therefore, U.S. citizen students classified as non-Florida residents for tuition purposes may be made eligible to pay in-state tuition rates, provided the student and parents, if they’re dependent on their parents, can meet the requirements of Florida’s residency law.
