A new G.I. Bill goes into effect in August 2009. It includes expanded availability of educational assistance benefits to veterans and active armed forces members; e.g. National Guard and Reservists. At least 90 days of continuous active duty since September 11, 2001 is required for eligibility, unless a veteran is discharged with a service-related disability. Educational assistance benefits are based on length of service in amounts ranging 40 to 100 percent of tuition at USF. Contact the Veterans’ Services office for further details on applying for educational assistance benefits.
Veterans partaking of educational benefits who are called to active military duty are eligible for refund of USF tuition expenses. Executing a Fee Adjustment Request form, accompanied by confirmed military orders, and successful withdrawal via OASIS are two requirements for refunds after the fifth day of the semester. An additional third requirement, after the last day to withdraw via OASIS without academic penalty (the “W” grade deadline at semester midpoint), is submission of an Academic Regulations Committee petition; again, accompanied by confirmed military orders.
For answers to questions regarding veterans’ requirements for applying for refund of USF tuition, e-mail the University Registrar’s Office at Email or call (813) 974-2000.
